Overview
Kuala Lumpur has two big observation decks — the Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower — and most visitors only need one. Tickets cost about RM98-RM120 ($24-$29) per adult.
Here is the honest trade-off: the Petronas Towers are the icon, but you cannot see an icon while standing inside it. KL Tower is slightly less famous, but its view includes the twin towers — which is the photo you actually came for.

Book KL Tower if photography is your goal. The open-air Sky Deck at 300 m has no glass between your camera and the skyline, and the Sky Box glass cube makes a fun family photo.
Book Petronas if standing inside the world's tallest twin towers matters to you. It is a well-run, timed experience — but views from level 86 are through glass, and the famous towers are missing from your own photos.
Do both only if you love skylines; otherwise put the second ticket's money toward the Heli Lounge helipad at sunset — arguably the best-value view in the city.
Skip paid decks entirely on a hazy day. Check the sky by noon; haze is common in KL and flattens the view.

KL Tower has the better view, because from it you can see the Petronas Towers themselves. Petronas gives you the famous Skybridge experience inside the towers. If you only book one for photos, pick KL Tower's Sky Deck.
