Buy a Malaysia-only eSIM if KL and Malaysia are your whole trip. 1 GB per day is plenty for maps, WhatsApp, Instagram and Grab bookings.
Pick a regional Asia eSIM if Singapore is on the same itinerary — one plan, no swapping at the border. Most travellers doing the classic KL–Singapore combo save money this way.
Choose an airport SIM only if your phone does not support eSIM or is locked to your home carrier. The counters at KLIA are easy but expect a queue after big flight arrivals.
Skip daily roaming passes for anything longer than a 2-day trip — at RM20+ ($5+) per day they cost more than an entire week of eSIM data.
Set up the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before departure — install the profile, but keep the data line switched off until you land. Doing it over a weak connection abroad is the one way this goes wrong.
