Overview
Why visit Canberra
Canberra is Australia's purpose-built capital — a planned city of national museums, memorials and galleries around a lake, halfway between Sydney and Melbourne. Its superpower is value: nearly every major attraction is free, making it the cheapest sightseeing day in Australia.
It will never out-glamour Sydney, and it does not try. Come for a day or two of substance: the national parliament, the country's most moving war memorial and its best science museum for kids.
