Book the Ubud circuit for your first driver day — it is popular for good reason and works from any base in south Bali. Start by 8 am: Tegalalang and the Monkey Forest are far better before the crowds and midday heat.
Add Kintamani only if a volcano view excites you more than extra time in Ubud town. The drive gets long; with kids, plain Ubud is the better day.
Take the east Bali route on a second or third driver day, and start even earlier — Lempuyang's photo queue grows by the hour.
Skip shared coach tours if there are two or more of you; a private car costs the same combined and stops when you say stop. Also skip cramming — two sights done slowly beat five done from a car window.
Tip the driver IDR 50,000–75,000 ($3–$4) at the end of a good day; it is customary and appreciated. A driver you like can be rebooked directly for your remaining days.
Driver days pair naturally with temples and day trips; see the Bali guide for how many driver days your trip length needs.
