Kuala Lumpur

Big-city Malaysia: twin towers, temples and street food

Overview

Aquariums and zoos in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur has one major aquarium — Aquaria KLCC, right in the city centre — and one major zoo, Zoo Negara, known for its giant pandas. Tickets run about RM50–RM90 ($12–$22) per adult, roughly half of what similar attractions cost in Singapore.

Both are solid half-day family stops. Neither needs more than 2–3 hours, so you can pair one with a mall or the Petronas Towers on the same day.

How to choose

Pick Aquaria KLCC if you have limited time — it is a 10-minute walk from the Petronas Towers, so it slots into any city-centre day. Feeding sessions run at fixed times; check the day's schedule when you book.

Pick Zoo Negara if pandas are the draw or your kids love a full zoo day. Go at opening time (9 am), do the panda centre first, and use the tram for the outer loop.

Farm in the City is the sleeper hit for kids under 8 — they can feed rabbits, deer and tortoises up close. It is 30–40 minutes from the centre, so combine it with something else on that side of town.

Skip the KL Tower Mini Zoo as a standalone trip; it only makes sense bundled with the KL Tower observation deck. And if Singapore is also on your itinerary, save the big aquarium spend for there — see our Kuala Lumpur guide for how to split your days.
