Da Lat

Da Lat is a hill town at 1,500 m in Vietnam's Central Highlands, where the weather sits around 20°C all year. It suits couples and anyone melting in Ho Chi Minh City, a 50-minute flight away. December to March is the dry, blue-sky season.

Most sights are cheap by any standard — entry fees for the falls, gardens and Crazy House each run well under ₫100,000 ($4). Two full days cover the highlights; add a third for canyoning or a countryside farm tour.

The fastest route is the 50-minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Lien Khuong airport, 30 km south of town — budget another 40 minutes by shuttle van or taxi. The cheap option is a sleeper bus: 6-8 hours from Ho Chi Minh City for around ₫250,000-₫350,000 ($10-$13), with overnight departures that save a hotel night.

In a Vietnam itinerary, Da Lat works as the cool-air break between hot lowland stops. The classic pairing is with Nha Trang — about 4 hours apart by a scenic mountain road, so you get beach and highlands in one loop from Ho Chi Minh City. If you are choosing one hill escape for the whole trip, pick Da Lat for cafés, waterfalls and easy walking; pick Sapa in the north only if rice terraces and trekking matter more.
