If you have one spare day and want sand, book the Koh Larn trip. The island's Tawaen and Samae beaches have clear water — a different world from Pattaya's murky city beach 7 km across the water.
Skip a Bangkok beach day entirely if your trip already includes Phuket, Krabi, or Koh Samui. Nothing near Bangkok matches southern Thailand, and the day is better spent on Ayutthaya or the floating markets. Beaches near Bangkok are for trips that never leave the capital.
