Desert dunes to the world's tallest tower in one day

Overview

Theme parks in Dubai: what to expect

Dubai builds theme parks the way it builds everything — biggest, newest, most air-conditioned. You get the world's largest indoor park (IMG Worlds), one of the world's top water parks (Aquaventure), and a Hollywood-scale complex (Dubai Parks) on the city's edge. Tickets cost more than Southeast Asia, less than the US.

Budget roughly AED 285-365 ($78-$99) per person per park. Book online — walk-up rates are meaningfully higher.

How to choose

Pick one ride park and one water park — doing more repeats the experience at around AED 300 ($82) a head. The standard winning combo is IMG Worlds plus Aquaventure. Swap Wild Wadi in for Aquaventure only if you are staying near Jumeirah or want a slightly calmer day with the Burj Al Arab backdrop.

Skip Motiongate and Legoland unless your trip is a week or longer, or your children are under 10 (in which case Legoland jumps to the top). The Dubai Parks complex eats a full day with travel, and first-time visitors usually regret spending it there instead of at the Burj Khalifa side of town.

Visiting November to March? Prioritise water parks — perfect weather. In peak summer, flip it: IMG's indoor halls become the best place in Dubai to spend a 45°C afternoon. See also water sports in Dubai and the full Dubai guide.
